But does the adventure really fun, and what has it with the irritating shooter passages?
Welcome to Cordon!
Cordon is a small contemplative Mediterraneans, where Sherlock spent some of his childhood. Until his mother suddenly died of tuberculosis and returned to the United Kingdom with his big brother Mycroft.
This section of the map shows a tight overview Cordons. You start with a quasi empty card and fills them gradually with symbols. Source: PC Games Exactly this painful memory now leads him, in 1880, as 26-year-olds back to his former home. During his adventure, Sherlock is accompanied by Jon. Jon is a good friend, probably even his best. Since he can think, Jon is no longer waxed from his side.
Jon regularly comments on what Sherlock does and, of course, the budding master detective also talks to his friend who lovingly given the nickname Sherry.
Trouble in paradise
Back to the actual reason for the visit: the death of Sherlocks mother. After arriving at the seemingly idyllic island quickly becomes clear, it is more behind her death than it appears.
The faces in the intermediate sequences look perfect. Especially the eye area is well suited for some characters. In this picture, the young Sherlock enjoys the prospect of Source: PC Games While we try to clarify as a player, to clarify the background, more and more displaced childhood memories come to light. In addition, we felt at every corner in the Open World about strange deaths and other mysteries that want to be resolved.
The game is well aware of the high crime rate on the island and makes it funny through Jons Schnippische and partly Macabre comments regularly even more. This criminal principal shows the right on arrival in our hotel. By chance, we find the corpse of a young woman and learn from the loss of a valuable gemstone.
The case seems dolorously, but for his solution and otherwise in the game, many determination techniques are available. The numerous hints are obtained by interacting with our environment, these are highlighted by interaction symbols and are not noted in our notebook.
Our friend Jon deviates ourselves when it gets tricky, not from the side. Source: PC Games In addition to finding instructions, it is also relevant to create character profiles of possible suspects and use them as help. Subsequently, we can squeeze key persons over the prescriptions obtained.
Also, for mini-game fans a bit is offered: strange substances can be analyzed in a chemical skill test. This ensures variety and is very nice to lure the gameplay.
A special mechanics in Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One is the question of passers-by to places or events, because it requires another core aspect of the game: Dress up.
Sherlock, the bladder
Cladding is an essential component and depending on which panel we select, we get access to new information or areas. However, we do not have to do someone for his clothes, as is the case, for example, in Hitman, but can easily buy the appropriate panel.
At this point, the ethnic conflicts on Cordon come to light. Cordon is a fictional island, which was formerly part of the Ottoman Empire until she was colonized by the British.
In addition to the resulting population mix of Arabs and British, there are also African refugees, which are partly illegally on the island and therefore exploited. Here, conflict potential is preprogrammed. Racism and inhumane sayings are quasi everyday life on Cordon. The cladding system is easily thought-out. Therefore, in this Riemann costume we go through as a worker and can enter together with Jon the excavation facility. Source: PC Games The developers unfortunately often resort to clichés, which is made understandable from design, but still irritating. So one is considered for the inhabitants as Arabs, if one sets a Fez on the head. And with cloth on the face and torn clothes you go through as a roadway.
Unfortunately, this cladding mechanism is sometimes unintentionally pulled into the ridiculous. So we can put on an Riemann costume and then apply as workers. This also applies if we stroll in our new cargo via an archaeological excavation site, which is only accessible to workers. Unfortunately, the game takes a part of his credibility.
Only when we have shot the opponents mask out of the face, we can arrest him. Sense? Funding. Source: PC Games Not only panels are important for exploring the game world, it also applies to consult the map regularly. At first glance, it falls on that all roads have their own name and that also has a reason.
When accepting a job, we do not just get a symbol on the card that reveals us where we do, but a street name. Based on these road names, we finally have to find the crime scene. This system works surprisingly well and is a successful change.
A deliberately dispensed with a minimal, so the card is very often pulling out of the bag. This is the atmosphere beneficial if you like this design idea, but is finally taste matter.
Does it have to be that way...
But it is not enough to explore and take people from the nose. Sherlock is always reliant on some more drastic argument amplifiers. In the course of the story we are throwing again and again in shooter passages. We can pretend very murderously, the adversaries alternatively — and preferred — but also arrest.
To achieve this goal, we must first shoot the armor parts from the body and make another vulnerability to arrest them by QuickTime event.
Here we asked ourselves: What should that? It would be new to us that criminals in the late 19th century or in any other age with steel masks have run as body armor by the area to protect themselves from firearms.
So shoot first and ask later? Well, beyond the presence of our morality, pacifist approach brings even an advantage. For each arrest we get some money and are praised by Jon. If we simply kill all the opponents, we just do not get any money and our environment responds differently to us.
